Sunset at Whitefish Point, about an hour before we started looking for the comet. The Moon rose to the east. It was a full Moon, called the hunters Moon. Hopefully, the light from the Moon woul;dn’t hamper our ability to see the comet. Looking WSW we were finally able to see the comet. What aContinue reading “Watching Tsuchinshan-Atlas”

Full Moon at Whitefish Point
This is the Moon setting this morning at Whitefish Point. Since we do not have shades in our bedroom, whenever the Moon is in the western sky it’s like turning on the lights in the middle of the night. That’s why I use a sleep-mask. Shortly after the Moon set it was time for sunrise.Continue reading “Full Moon at Whitefish Point”
Changing weather and a book
What a difference between sunrise and sunset. As the day progressed, the wind picked up and it became cooler. The next couple of days are looking windy and cooler. Susan spent the late morning and early afternoon working on the habitat restoration site. Here’s Susan in her Fish & Wildlife Volunteer jacket and hat. InContinue reading “Changing weather and a book”
Whitefish Point. and memories
I’m sitting and writing on a cool (40F) morning thin king about friends and relatives in Canada who have been celebrating Thanksgiving, which is celebrated there on Columbus Day. In a way I am also celebrating the day. Thoughts and memories are flooding me at the moment. There are so many people that I wantContinue reading “Whitefish Point. and memories”
The past few moth nights in Ann Arbor
In late August we had a moth night at Black Pond Woods. We had a large group of people and some interesting insects. We had three sheets set up and the “lighthouse.” The “lighthouse” is an Ikea portable wardrobe with the Lep-led inside with a power source. The jakery power source will last all nightContinue reading “The past few moth nights in Ann Arbor”
Whitefish Point arrival October
The garden is almost done for the season. Tomato plants and green beans have been taken out. Lots of canning done – tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, green tomato chutney and apple sauce (from apples we got at the Farmers Market). So, it was time to head north As we headed north on I-75 we couldContinue reading “Whitefish Point arrival October”
It’s beginning to look at like like Halloween
Other people’s raised bed seemed to have become inhabited by ghosts and witches. Ours still has tomatoes, beans and peppers. Don’t drink and fly – serious accidents can happen. Then again, perhaps the witch was texting. And finally, one of my favorite yards (so far) is the family having a drink with their dogs. MoreContinue reading “It’s beginning to look at like like Halloween”
An interesting week
The first layer of asphalt has been laid on most of Saunders Crescent and Hatcher Crescent. Supposidly the entire project will be done by Saturday. This project started in late March, so it will be a relief to everybody on the “Crescents” to see it completed. It’s been interesting watching the asphalt being put down.Continue reading “An interesting week”
Fall Colors, 2024
We always leave our place at Whitefish Point, Michigan with mixed feelings. AT least on our drive home yesterday we had some nice views of the changing colors that are always a highlight of the fall. Right now the maples are starting to turn red, the aspens are going to yellow and some of theContinue reading “Fall Colors, 2024”
Whitefish Point – more birds
Everybody gets excited when they see a Spruce Grouse. I understand that, remembering the days before we had our place here. But, in reality they are surprisingly common – if you know where to look. Personally, I get equally excited when I find a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that I can photograph. Of course this frequently meansContinue reading “Whitefish Point – more birds”
