So the deck at our house in Ann Arbor has change very little since I got here in 1984, so it’s time to replace it. Lots of memories of the old one from the swimming pool to Alexis’ wedding in 2003.

Here’s the view from the driveway. The posts that are still there are from when we removed the pool and put in new deck boards.

The view from the garden. The fence will be replace at the same time as the deck which is shceduled for February, 2027. The new deck will go about four feet beyond the old posts that are still there. Essentially, we’ll be doubling our available space for gardening. But we’ll see how that goes. The exposed bed to the right will hopefully be home to new fig plants that I’m currently trying to get rooted. I’m hoping to get one larger raised bed in the new available space. I’m hoping that it will be a good spce for growing butternut squash, maybe acorn squash and green beans.
What comes next is shoulder surgery in 20 days. Hopefully that will go well.
Good to have a nice project to look forward to. Luckily the surgery will be all over by Thanksgiving and you will be well on your way to recovery by watching the Macy’s parade!
