Quiet days at Whitefish Point

The past few days have been less that great for migrants. The winds have been howling from the north-west and west. So, I’ve been catching up on reading and thinking about what I’ve read.

I bought this a few years ago, as Terry Pratchett was an author that was recommended to me by a colleague at Eastern Michigan University. But, it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I managed to read this.

The book is funny, strange and entertaining. This is an elaborate story about a city police force, it’s commander, dwarfs, trolls and many more species. It’s coming upon the anniversary of a great massacre between the dwarfs and trolls. Nobody who remember who massacred whom. But tensions between the two species is getting to the breaking point. Regardless, the commander of the police force manages to, with the help of his wife and others avoid the who mess.

I would recommend reading it, if for nothing else just a few days of escaping from reality.

Another book that has been on my bookshelf at the cabin for years. It was perhaps our daughters since it is bi-lingual in English and Greek.

This is essentially a series of poems involving Penelope and the events at Ithaca while Odysseus was away for twenty years.

Would I recommend it – perhaps, if you like poetry, imagery, and (yet another) retelling of the events surrounding the Trojan War. I enjoyed it,, then again I enjoy reading a book of poems periodically.

Hopefully the next two days will have more birds, and perhaps even insects to talk about.

Until then…
