After yesterdays sub-zero temperatures today a temperature of almost 10F seems quite pleasant. But now it’s snowing. I’ve already shoveled twice, about 1/2 – 3/4 inch both times and the snow isn’t slowing down. So if you go out today be careful as the snow is accumulating quickly. Always look for a soft (and safe)Continue reading “Let it snow!”

Sitting inside after breakfast
I made blueberry pancakes this morning for breakfast. Since it’s currently -11F (-24C) I don’t seeing heading outside soon. But have been thinking about art, drawing and painting. In two weeks we’ll be back in the Upper Peninsula looking for birds with friends. What will we find? Who knows? Regardless, it’ll be interesting and fun.Continue reading “Sitting inside after breakfast”
Cold day in Ann Arbor
When I got up this morning it was 5F, now five hours later it’s -1F. But we’re back from a long cold sunny walk. Looking outside down the drive at the garden and across the drive to the pond out back. Not much happening. One month ago I was sitting on the back deck atContinue reading “Cold day in Ann Arbor”
A special visitor
We always appreciate visitors, both friends and animals. In the past couple of weeks we had friends with or without a dog visiting and it’s always nice. But our feeders also have nice visitors. While they are meant for birds and always have bird visitors we also get an array of other animals. In AnnContinue reading “A special visitor”
May you live in interesting times
Well, we sure are living in interesting times, but so were Germans in the 1930s. First tariffs, then vaccines, ICE, Venezula and now Greenland. He’s trying to start World War III in order to cancel the mid-term elections, but that’s still a few months away. Hopefully, Congress will stop him. Now on to some editorialContinue reading “May you live in interesting times”
January – Whitefish Point, Michigan
After spending two days exploring eastern Chippewa County, Michigan we are back at Whitefish Point. It’s a pleasant day, 19F, no wind and very light snow falling. So it was time to walk down and look at Lake Superior. Walking to the point. Looking at the lighthouse and Shipwreck museum structures from the deck overlookingContinue reading “January – Whitefish Point, Michigan”
January – Sault Ste. Marie
Yesterday we went to Rudyard, Pickford and Sault Ste. Marie looking for birds on a very cold morning (-5 to -7F) with pur friends Jan and Kurt. My camera decided to stop operating optimally but here’s what I got anyway. We had a day filled with Pine Grosbeaks. We also had American Goldfinches, Pine SiskinsContinue reading “January – Sault Ste. Marie”
Thinking about warmer times
I’m sitting across from our wood stove at Whitefish Point in a warm room looking outside where the temperature is currently 7F. Tomorrow we’re heading into eastern Chippewa county in search of some winter birds. Who knows how that will go? But I am also thinking about last week when Susan and I visited GallupContinue reading “Thinking about warmer times”
Chariot of the Gods?
Erich Von Däniken died two days ago. I read his book Chariot of the Gods? soon after it came out many years ago. With an undergrad major in anthropology I was both intrigued and appalled by the book. He managed to turn his fanciful look into ancient structures and their construction into a cult following.Continue reading “Chariot of the Gods?”
American Gestapo
ICE, aka the America Gestapo are acting just like a fascist police force should. They are hurting, arresting and killing anybody who is against fascism. ICE is the fascist arm that is helping to kill democracy. The only way to slow down this fascist takeover of America is to hold them accountable, while there isContinue reading “American Gestapo”
