Walking along the boardwalk towards the point we found where the waterfowl shack had been moved for the winter. While it is only a few hundred yards from where it was and it was a lot of work to move it is in a safe place for the winter. The “point” has grown some 120Continue reading “Whitefish Point, November 2024”

Humor for a dreary day
It’s been overcast at Whitefish Point for the better part of the past week. Storms have been coming from the north bring cool weather and them from the east bring rain. There’s been no snow since we’ve been here, which is pretty unusual. Now on to some cartoons to brighten your day. This is fromContinue reading “Humor for a dreary day”
Douglas, Day-3 birds
Needless to say not all of our time in Douglas was spent eating and giving a talk. We also spent time with Martin and Catherine out looking for birds. In the Allegan State Game Area we found a field with over 500 Sandhill Cranes. It’s always nice seeing so many on the ground. While weContinue reading “Douglas, Day-3 birds”
Douglas, Day-2
The day started with breakfast at Happystance, which I can highly recommend. And anyplace with a flamingo at their entrance should be great. After breakfast we went to Oval Beach in search of a nature trail. The near the entance to the beach we found a trail for Mount Baldhead, which was excellent. For lunchContinue reading “Douglas, Day-2”
Ann Arbor and Douglas

Oh how has coffee affected me over the years? Speaking of coffee and hot drinks is the timeContinue reading “Ann Arbor and Douglas”

Obviously, Arlo & Janis have covered the day many times. I learned about Armistice Day as a young child. And at some point IContinue reading “Armistice Day, Remembrance Day or Veterans Day”
Looking at a bad week
Needless to say the world is in shock at the results of the American presidential election. What happens in the future doesn’t look positive, especially when it comes to the future of the supreme court. People are analyzing the race ad nauseum and coming up with numerous reasons for the results. But I think thatContinue reading “Looking at a bad week”
Last moth night of 2024?
It was on the morning of 31 October that was checked on the moth trap that was set up the previous evening. The trap was set over one of our garden beds as pictured on the right. The left photo is Susan photographing moths before we released them back into the wild. The interesting thingContinue reading “Last moth night of 2024?”
Dark Day Book Reviews
I got this book for free and it looked interesting. I assumed that it was fiction, but eh author wrote it as actual history. This actually made me laugh. There is essentially nothing in the book that is factual even though the author gives abundant citations. The book covers Chinese explorations of the Pacific OceanContinue reading “Dark Day Book Reviews”
A garden and some skeletons
Sadly, the garden is done for the year, with the exception of herbs. Each garden got a layer of composted cow manure, then composted soil from our bins at the back fence. I am always amazed at the amount of soil that we get from composting non-weed garden waste and kitchen scraps. We must getContinue reading “A garden and some skeletons”
