Back in the land of ice and snow

Yesterday we arrived at Whitefish Point, Michigan and it’s clearly still “winter” here. It’s cooler and there’s still a lot of snow. It’s hard to believe that two weeks ago we were enjoying nighttime temperatures in the lower 60s F and daytime temperatures in the low 70s F.

Crossing the Mackinac Bridge there’s still a little ice, but it’s mostly open.

The view to the north from our back door. Yes, there’s still about two feet of snow on the deck.

The view from the upper deck. I imagine that in most places there is one to two feet of snow. It’s supposed to be warmer this week, temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s with rain in a few days. That should help to quickly melt the snow. We’ll see how it goes.

More later…

  1. Wow, what a different world. Here in upstate NY, Columbia County, the forsythia is blooming, and the crocus, hyacinth and daffodils are in bloom. The chipping sparrow and the field sparrow have returned, and I saw a phoebe and heard a rufous sided towhee. Along with lots of robins and bluebirds. The red maples are flowering too.
