A special visitor

We always appreciate visitors, both friends and animals. In the past couple of weeks we had friends with or without a dog visiting and it’s always nice. But our feeders also have nice visitors. While they are meant for birds and always have bird visitors we also get an array of other animals. In Ann Arbor we frequently have a variety of squirrels, red, fox and eastern gray squirrels. We also get the occasional opossum, raccoon and skunk, as well as shrews. In the north we commonly get red squirrels, rarely a flying squirrel. In the summer both feeders get eastern chipmunks, and at Whitefish Point we sometimes get least chipmunks. Also at both houses we regularly see coyotes. In the spring at Whitefish Point it’s not uncommon to have a bear raiding our feeders – hey everything has to eat. But on the weekend we had a nice visitor that was eating seed under our feeders at Whitefish Point.

This stunning red fox spent at least two morning getting seed below one of our feeders. I also wonder if red-backed voles were also there.

That’s all for now.

  1. Fantastic, looks very healthy! We usually have sighted one hunting and bringing food to her den for many years, but have not sighted one for about 5 years in Columbia County, NY on our property. Beautiful photo!
