Day-10: Canaveral National Seashore

Yesterday we spent the morning at Turtle Mound and Castle Windy. Birds were OK, but plants and insects were great.

We got to see Surf and Black Scoters which are always a treat for me.

A Common Loon was quite close as it worked it’s way down the shore.

Gulf Fritillary is common but still nice to see. We also saw Zebra Longwing, Great southern white and Cloudless sulphur.

It’s always nice finding gray nickerbean.

The trail at Castle Windy makes you feel like you’re in the tropics. The trees are covered with ferns, orchids, mosses, lichens and occasionally birds.

Shoestring fern.

We found a large batch of giant milkweed bugs.

Cocoon of Abbot’s bagworm moth was something new for both Susan and me.

And a final find of the morning – nine-banded armadillo.

More tomorrow….
