On 1 June we made the drive to Whitehorse, Yukon. On the map it looks like it would be a quick drive. In reality it was a long day with some interesting stops. The scenery was amazing. Traveling in the south – Sugar Mill Gardens
Live oak covered with Spanish moss (not a real moss but a member of the genus Tillandsia, which makes it a flowering plant. There is also ball moss (another Tillandsia), resurrection fern and some Florida butterfly orchids as well as lichens. This tree is a true ecosystem onto itself. Finding an interesting orchid
We always stop along M-123, between I-75 and Moran (Mackinac Co., Michigan) to see this orchid when it is blooming. This is the Showy Lady’s-slipper. Sometimes to get there before they are blooming, or after they’re done. But sometime we hit them at peak. That was the case this year with an added benefit.
