Today is Susan’s final birthday in her 60s. We started the day getting breakfast at Village Kitchen. A wonderful breakfast, as usual. We saw Rosy, Helen, Victor and John. Then walked home. Helen gave Susan a large piece of carrot cake to celebrate the day. This mural was done in 2002. We’ve been going thereContinue reading “A special birthday”

The day after Thanksgiving
I guess that Woodstock and his friends survived Thanksgiving. But why? Ah, so Woodstock, and presumably his friends don’t go well with cranberries. Had a quiet dinner yesterday late afternoon after the Lions football game. It was fairly traditional. We had turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, acorn squash, cornbread-chestnut stuffing and peas with rolls.Continue reading “The day after Thanksgiving”
Thanksgiving – 2025
Here we are at another Thanksgiving. I can remember as a child having a house filled with family and friends. How many times did Uncle Ralph and Aunty Carmela bring us a large turkey – too many to count. There would be a lot of laughing, a Lions football game then dinner followed by numerousContinue reading “Thanksgiving – 2025”
Drawings of some birds from the south
I love the whistling-ducks, both Fulvous and Black-bellied. I always look forward to seeing them when we are traveling in the south during the winter. Ibises are interesting waders. When we’re in the south we seen both Glossy Ibis (left) and White Ibis (right). Recently when I was in Brazil I saw four species ofContinue reading “Drawings of some birds from the south”
Woody Guthrie
The other day we were listening to music. It was a country-folk mix – Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Woody Guthrie. The music was great, and it made me think of the Woody Guthrie song Deportee. This is a song that has such relevance today. We are, as was the case with WoodyContinue reading “Woody Guthrie”
Monarch migration
Sometimes strange, but interesting things show up in my feeds that I follow on the Internet. Recently one appeared that covered new technologies and monarch migration from the US to both Mexico and Florida. Project Monarch has fitted a lot of monarchs with transmitters, which in itself is an amazing feat. The map above showsContinue reading “Monarch migration”
MAGA Center for Disease
Well, changes come with each new administration. Most are OK, some are better. But the change with the CDC is idiotic and is brought to you by worm-man. This ignorant idiot brought about changes to “what causes autism?” First it was Tylenol, but since autism diagnoses predate that, it was changed. Now his real agendaContinue reading “MAGA Center for Disease”
Book reviews and more
Right now I have a lot of books in the queue so to speak. It’s funny how my reading waxes and wanes as the seasons do. I find that I read a lot more once the weather has turned colder and wetter. So what is being read now and in the near future? Right nowContinue reading “Book reviews and more”
Some drawings I did earlier this year
It’s been awhile since I have done much drawing, here are some from earlier this year. A Tillandsia from Florida. Violets from southern Michigan. Carya cordiformis, bitternut hickory bud, a favorite of mine. Another favorite of mine – magnolia buds. A magnolia flower bud about to open. Spotted wakerobin, a type of trillium that weContinue reading “Some drawings I did earlier this year”
The Deed to the family house in Detroit
On the first page of the deed to may parents home on Lockwood in Detroit I found some interesting information. From 1808: “…the survey of Prairie Ronde from the Detroit River to the Michigan-Chicago Road (which become Michigan Avenue) and the land owned by Joseph Livernois west (the person for whom Livernois Avenue was named).”Continue reading “The Deed to the family house in Detroit”
