Star’s Café

Yesterday we went out shopping for things that I needed to have before my surgery on Tuesday. Since we were at Westgate just a few hundred yards from Star’s Café, I suggested that we stop there for lunch.

Middle East Feast was an understatement yesterday. After ordering our lunch there was a table with about 15-20 men sitting and eating a variety of Middle East dishes. Susan went over to see what they were eating and they said there was too much food for them so invited us to join them.

The man on the left in the apron is the owner and here we are eating with them. They men were from all over the country and were here for a wedding that evening. There was going to be 1500 people at the wedding and this was a celebration of friends in the afternoon. Soon our lunch turned into a true Middle Eastern feast. In fact there was so much left over food that they couldn’t take with them that we took five left over containers home with us. So much for needing to cook much for the next few days.

What amazes me is how people can be so hateful based on ethnicity or religion when we’re all basically the same. Friendship and hospitality can overcome hate amking the future much brighter.

More later…

  1. Beautiful story to share. Amen. I have always said that sharing a meal will always overcome hate and suspicion among people of different cultures. And it’s so delicious!!!!! Best of luck with your surgery. It will be over before you know it and then you will be on the mend. And you will have fortified yourself with such good food!
