Erie Metropark Hawks

We spend part of the day yesterday at the Detroit River Hawk Watch in Erie Metropark which is in Wayne County, Michigan. I spent from 9 AM until noon watching hawks. I wan’t disappointed. I was able to seen over 2,000 Broad-winged Hawks, which was nice. If I had stayed the entire day I might have seen most of the 36,000 that we counted there. Over at Holiday Beach, Ontario they had over 59,000 Broad-winged Hawks, their third best day ever. I was fortunate in 1984 to be the hawk counter there when we had over 90,000 the best day ever.

People at the site facing east with Canada in the distance.

A few of the Broad-winged Hawks were low enough to see quite well.

The majority were quite high, sometime kettling, othertime streaming.

All-in-all a most enjoyable day.
