Yesterday my friend Mike and I spend the morning and early afternoon at Holiday Beach Conservation Area in Ontario, Canada. From 1980 until around 1990 I spend a lot of time there as both a bird-watcher and hawk counter. But, not only did we go there we got to use the Gordie Howe Bridge to cross from Detroit over to Windsor.
The new Gordie Howe Bridge is both beautiful, but also has three lanes of traffic going both ways. It is slightly more expensive that the older Ambassador Bridge but well worth the fee difference.

The erection of the tower in the mid-1980s. That’s me with binoculars in the right-hand photo. I’m proud to say that I was involved with getting the tower there and forming the Holiday Beach Migration Observatory.
It was a rather slow day with a small burst of raptors in the mid-morning. We had over 600 Broad-winged Hawks and assorted other species. Not much happening with small birds of insects.
