Garden produce – August, 2026

We were sitting on the deck eating breakfast and I was thinking about how much we have been getting from our garden. Every day we have a variety of tomatoes. Most of the cherry tomatoes go into salads or are just eaten from a bowl. We’re getting about a dozen in the morning and again in the evening. Currently we’re getting 2-3 large tomatoes a day. These have been used in sandwiches and caprese salads. There is so much basil, a few leaves every day go into salads, and a bunch has gone into making pesto which is frozen and saved for later. We have been using kale for soups and cooked as a side with rice. I’ve already had three jalapeños turn red and are now stored in the refrigerator. And, of course there garlic, dill and thyme. Zucchini has been proficient as always and we have 12+ butternut squash slowly growing. Roma tomatoes are slowly ripening and we should have our first picking in a week or two. Then there are the figs. Last year I got my first ones, there year there are a lot more than last year.

Tomatoes and zucchini from the garden. One of the many carpese salads that we’ve have this summer.

More later…
