The wind shifted to the south yesterday, but barely there. It was quite sunny all day and felt warm even with the temperature getting higher than 39F.

Looking south from the hawk watch where we went in the morning to talk with Sean the hawk-counter. The sun is slowly meting the snow at the edges. The predicted rain with temperatures in the 30s F will help with the snow melt.

The view at the point looking east towards Canada. There are still huge ice mounds fopped with sand. This bodes well for more sand being deposited on the beach, thus growing the point.

Looking north-east along the board walk from the parking lot to the point.
For the next week the temps will be in the upper30s and 40s F which will help the melting. But on many of those days and nights it will also be raining which will have an even larger effect on the snow melt. Who knows, by the time we head south much of this might have melted.
More later…
In May 2011, my husband Don and I went to Whitefish Point, and I spent most of a day with the hawk counter at that time. It was so magnificent be there, outdoors, with hawks coming across the sky. One of my best memories!
