Savannah National Wildlife Refuge

We spent yesterday at the wildlife drive of the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge in South Carolina. It’s always a wonderful place to visit.

The small parking area at the start is always a nice place to begin our adventure here. This huge live oak is truly an introduction to the south.

Our first large sulphur (species to be determined) and our first turtles (species to be determined).

In the evening we came back for round too hoping for a rail and perhaps more waterfowl.

As the sun was setting we had calling Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks and a Sora. The perfect end to a great day.

More later…

  1. What an amazing place! One day I would like to go to the OuterBanks of NC, Charleston and Savannah, and now will look to include the Savannah NWR! It looks like the turtles are cuddling up to an alligator?! And that oak is just a beautiful dream tree! Very interesting terrain. Thank you for sharing.
