Influenza and other viruses

I hope that everybody reading this is vaccinated for influenza because the flue season is pretty harsh this year. Of course a lot of people throughout the country have little idea that this is happening due to slashes in the CDC by MAHA (Make America Hurt Again).

The most disturbing aspect of this flue season is the number of hospitalizations, although 3,100 deaths is also disturbing.

With regards to childhood vaccinations measles and pertussis are running high since MAHA has taken place.

Reading about the recent outbreaks of measles is really frustrating. For the past thirty years the number of measles cases have been quite low. Once a case appears in an area with a lot of unvaccinated children you have an outbreak since measles is so contagious.

Recently a. child with measles visited the creationist Ark experience in Kentucky where there were a lot of unvaccinated children. So, there might be another outbreak there. So evolution and viruses meets creationism – seems appropriate.

Be careful out there. One our way home from Eugene on the the flight from Seattle there was a small child that coughed the entire four hour flight. It might not be influenza, but it is still contagious. How many people will get it? And – where will they take it?

More later…

  1. Agree. Wear masks and wash hands frequently. I have been wearing a mask at work everyday for about 10 years, no matter the season ( I work in a hospital). This has cut down all colds and respiratory tract infections as well as the flu, which I haven’t had since 1998 (out of work for 2 weeks then). Knock on wood! In winter, I wear a mask in stores or where there are tons of people indoors. I think I had the coronavirus once though–that somehow slipped through. Be safe and well.
