Armistice Day, Remembrance Day, Veteran’s Day

In November as we sit and watch the trees lose their leaves and the first snow falls it’s time to remember events on 11 November 1918.

The armistice papers marking the end of World War I were signed at 5 in the morning and took effect at 11 am.

I learned this poem, by a Canadian soldier in the 1950s. It’s still relevant today and marked with people wearing poppies.

It’s funny how cartoons mark the day frequently.

Somehow the generals, none of whom were affected by their orders still wanted to push advances.

The infamous “SOS” from World War II. I can remember eating this as a child. It’s now called chipped-beef on toast.

Even Snoopy celebrates Armistice Day.

But today, everything has changed. Instead of poor people celebrating with meals they are being deprived of food.

Oh well, it’s a strange country that we live in.

More later…
