Furstenberg moth night – July

Before we headed north to Whitefish Point we took part in another moth night in Ann Arbor. As always it was nice seeing friends and people who are not yet friends. Besides the organizers who set up sheets and lights (5 of us) there were an additional 35+ people. The evening ran from 9PM until midnight.

Some of the people listening to what would be happening and the route of the sheets.

The Huron River as the sun was setting.

Eatly on the first insects are always beetles, midges, mayflies and caddisflies. Since we were essentially next to the river there would be a lot of caddisflies.

The the moths started. Feather-edged petrophila on the left and a grass-veneer on the right.

As the evening continued on so did the moths.

A large zebra caddisfly. This is one of the easiest of the caddisflies to identify.

The largest beetle that we had – a grapevine beetle.

Large showy moths are always enjoyed by the attendees.

Moths with showy patterns and colors are always appreciated.

One of the aquatic crambid moths.

A pink-streak moth, a moth that was new for all of us.

More later…
