This year there was another successful Piping Plover nest at Whitefish Point. The point itself has been expanding after an early winter storm took out the point in the recent past.

I think that this is a molting female plover, she still has some black feathers. This bird was not very far from the hatchings that were actively running around the beach cobble.

One of the hatchlings. We found three that we “together” in an area of about 2×3 yards. They looked quite healthy and were actively searching the cobble for things to eat.
We’ve had to get back to Ann Arbor on Monday since Susan has a tick bite that resulted in a “target” surrounding it. By Monday night she had antibiotics and should now be safe from getting Lyme disease.
Traveling and being out in nature is always full of hazards. So far this year we’ve encountered a large rattlesnake and got influenza. But it’s all worth it.
More later…
