Bird drawings

The other day when we drove to Brimley we didn’t photograph any birds. But I have drawings of some of the birds that we saw.

Black-capped Chickadees are common all over the state, but as nesting birds are far fewer than we see them in winter and during migration.

Red-breasted Nuthatches as with chickadees are less common then during migration and in winter in the north.

Winter Wrens are never common, but their cheerful songs are always a treat.

Yellow-rumped Warblers, which I know as Myrtle Warbler are never as common as they are during migration.

Black-throated Green Warblers are quite common throughout the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Black-and-white Warblers are as common as Black-throated Green Warblers.

The most abundant warbler in the north is the American Redstart. The other day we averaged 5-6 singing males per mile that we traveled.

So much for today, I hope that you enjoyed these little sketches.

More tomorrow…

  1. THese drawings are really beautiful, so simple and elegant. You should consider putting together a handbook of them, in order as they migrate through AA, just as you said in your Jan. lecture at the library this year, which I saw on Zoom. Very informative. The handbook could be printed and hand bound and put for sale to your fans! Thank you, Mary Ann Hitt
