Traveling in the South – Longleaf Pine Preserve

We watched an amazing sunrise sipping coffee with our friends Patsy and Ken before heading out on our next adventure to the Longleaf Pine Preserve where we first met in February, 2020.

These are two flowering butterworts, which are carnivorous plants. Yellow butterwort is on the left and Blue butterwort is on the right.

Here are two more carnivorous plants – Pink sundew on the left and Dwarf sundew on the right.

We also found Hooded pitcher plant and Zig-zag bladderwort to round out the carnivorous plants for the day.

Beaked grasspink, a wonderful little orchid.

One of my favorite little flowers – Candyroot, also called Lowe bachlors’ buttons.

Four-lined chocolate moth on the left and Henry’s elfin on the right.

And finally – Christmas lichen which is always a wonderful find in the south.

More later…
