Some recent “art”

For years I have spent time drawing and painting. I used to draw and sketch wherever I went. Then starting in the early 2000s I was too busy teaching for drawing. I think that the last drawings that I did were in 2014-6. Then with my neurological condition and meds I completely lost the ability to draw starting in 2016. I tried starting up again in 2022 with Inktober and manager to get a few done. But now I have some new drawing pens that I got for Christmas. So I have been doing some drawing since after Christmas. Nothing artistic, but still fun. So here goes.

Every day here in Eugene we are serenaded by Stellar’s Jays. Turning color into black and white is always a challenge for me.

One of my favorite microscopic organisms are tardigrades. These little water bears (their common name) are fascinating critters with unknown origins phylogenetically.

Last year when we were here we found a spot with a bunch of woolly bird’s nest fungi. A few days ago we took Oscar and Camilla to see them after re-finding them two days earlier. This little fungi are 2-3 millimeters wide with the spores sitting in the nest.

Of all the big trees that we can see in Oregon, including Red Woods and Sequoias my favorite is the Incense cedar. There are several within walking distance of Alexis’.

And finally a Woolly rhinoceros. I was going to use this for Inktober, 2024, but never got around to sketching it.

All of these sketches are approximately three by three inches, the rhino is closer to three by four.

As I said this is all in an attempt to get my creativity going again.

More later…

  1. These are amazing! I can’t draw a straight line. So I concentrate on photography, which I will admit I’m pretty good at. Maybe you saw one of my several shows at the AADL.

Happy New Year to both of you!
