Whitefish Point – more birds

Everybody gets excited when they see a Spruce Grouse. I understand that, remembering the days before we had our place here. But, in reality they are surprisingly common – if you know where to look.

Personally, I get equally excited when I find a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker that I can photograph. Of course this frequently means trying to get a shot in low light and through a tangle of branches.

Going back to the point in the evening we stopped to see the Burrowing Owl that had been relocated earlier in the day.

Susan stayed longer than I did because she wanted to watch it hunting moths. She wasn’t disappointed. I went home to get her a fleece and wind-breaker.

There’s the owl. It flew out to a snag in the center of the photo. At this point it was just about eight o’clock.

And that’s how our day ended.
