Another day, another orchid

There’s never a day at Whitefish Point that isn’t interesting. Many times it’s with birds, sometimes insects or plants. Today it was with an orchid.

The day started with clear skies and 59F. I was sitting on the deck sipping coffee when I took out my phone and got this picture. After a walk to the point we went into town because we had things to mail. The we headed to the Tahquamenon river mouth to see if one our favorite orchids was blooming. We weren’t disappointed

There are about ten orchids in this photo. The purple-colored selfheal somewhat dominated the center of the photo.

These are all orchids.

These are three striking examples of purple-fringed orchids. The flower stalks were close to two feet tall.

This one was interesting in that some of the flowers had white fringes, others pale purple.

Ah – a typical purple flowered plant, with a nearby white-flowered plant.

A close-up of the white flowered purple-fringed orchid!

Susan getting some photos.

More later…
