An Anniversary

I’m sitting down writing on a cool morning at Whitefish Point where it’s 55F Thinking about our wedding in 1987.

It was a hot July day, approaching 100F in 1987 that Susan and I were married in our backyard. What a day. So many friends and family came to celebrate with us. Alexis was 5 and so incredibly excited. I still remember the first time that she called Susan “mommy.” Or the day she told the kids and people at day care that her parents were getting married. What delightful memories.

The dress that Susan wore was had been her great-grandmothers from the late 1800s. The dress that Alexis wore we got for her in Mexico. Alexis’ dress has now been passed down to Camilla.

Over the years we celebrated many anniversaries at meals, often with friends. Here are a few photos from the digital era.

2012 – with Tom and Nancy, Steve and Chellie. I went to High School with Tom and Steve.

2011 – we celebrated with a day at Pictured Rocks, this is at Sable Falls.

2016 – Celebrating with dinner on the roof at Palios in Ann Arbor.

2017 – Our 30th anniversary. We had breakfast at Village Kitchen.

2018 – Breakfast in Grand Marais after 45 days on the road traveling through the western U.S.

2021 – Breakfast at Avalon with Mike and Linda.

What a great 37 years married and 40 years together.

  2. Susan and Michael,
Congratulations and very best regards from north of the border. I can still clearly remember a visit to Detroit in 1953 . . . . . but forget some of what happened last week. Hope all is well.
    Much, much love,
    Céline and Luigi.
