Butterflies and dinner

Currently there is very little diversity in butterflies at Whitefish Point. But there are still some interesting ones.

I’m not a big fan of European skippers, they usually show up in the hundreds or even the thousands. However, seeing just one is OK, even though they are a non-native invasive.

Over the past few days there has been a major emergence of Northern pearly eyes. There seem to been everywhere.

A male monarch necturing at orange hawkweed. It will be interesting to see how many caterpillars show up at the milkweed patch near the point, south of the parking lot.

And finally a white admiral, which is the northern version of a red-spotted purple. As with the pearly eyes they have been around in large numbers recently.

But after a busy day of getting some work done and looking at insects it’s time figure out what to eat.

Well, try heading into town where there are three food trucks. We stopped at our favorite.

Catch of the Day is located between the Paradise food mart and the old TJ’s Restaurant. The whitefish basket is the way to go. Three pieces of whitefish, fries and coleslaw. The perfect northern dinner away from home.

More tomorrow…
