Finally, some flowers!

Last night we had a beautiful sunset. This is one of the great joys of having an upper deck that faces west.

White flowers seem to be dominating currently. The plant on the left is wild strawberry, there must be thousands between our place and the lighthouse at Whitefish Point. The plant on the right is Canada dogwood, also called bunchberry. It’s equally abundant in the woodland fringes.

The plant on the left is fringed polygala, which is just starting to bloom, we have a small patch on the corner of our property. The plant on the right is, if I am correct hooked buttercup. Currently there are perhaps 5-6 between the cabin and the lighthouse.

The yellow flower is winter cress, also called yellow rocket which is somewhat invasive here at whitefish Point. The plant on the right is a sweet grass that is perhaps ten inches tall.

While not very showy, these are the flower of low-sweet blueberry. Each flower has the potential to become a blueberry, which will make us happen in a few months.

Pink lady’s-slipper is a spring orchid that we find to be quite common where ever we go in the eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

A Yellow-bellied Flycatcher at the cabin. An always fun to see migrant and uncommon nesting species in Chippewa County.

More later…
