Bald Eagles are an every day occurrence at Whitefish Point. But seeing over twenty in a day, mostly migrating is a special day. This is a bird molting from third year to fourth year plumage.

The Bald Eagles came in a great variety of plumages that relate to age. This is a second year bird.

Here’s an adult Bald Eagle.

Here’s a late fourth year bird that still is showing some darker feathers in the tail.

This Bald Eagle is a first year bird, it hatched in the summer of 2023.

But it wasn’t just Bald Eagles that put on a show yesterday. There were seven Golden Eagles. This is probably a first year bird.

I like this photo a lot. This is probably a second year bird with much less white in the wings. What I really like is that you can clearly see the golden head and nape.

Here’s another second year bird.

Here’s the same first year bird that was shown earlier. These three Golden Eagles were circling overhead at the same time.

A final first year Bald Eagle.

Eagles might have dominated the show, but Broad-winged Hawks and many other species made it a spectacular day.
Tomorrow – Spruce Grouse.
