Wow, what a week

Talk about being too busy to sit down and write; that’s the way it went for the first week of February. The ten days were filled with friends, food, birds, music, sports and even a talk. What were some of the highlights.

Hard to believe, yet exciting to have Long-eared Owls as my first owls of the year. We saw three at Lake Erie Metropark.

AN American Kestrel in western Washtenaw County.

A beautiful sunrise to start the warmest day in February.

Dinner at Culantro, a new Peruvian restaurant in Ann Arbor on the warmest day in February.

Three species of moths on the same evening when Susan set up the moth lights and a sheet.

Watching Tracy Chapman sing on the Grammys brought back memories of seeing her perform live many years ago.

Giving a talk on Michigan orchids to the Ann Arbor Orchid Society which was delightful. Then we watched the Super Bowl afterwords.

An attempt at photographing the Short-eared Owl at Conservancy Farm on Vreeland Road. At shortly after 6 pm it was really too dark to try.

And now I am sitting at Whitefish Point with a fire filling our place with warmth after walking over the the harbor to see a Townsend’s Solitaire.

More later…

  1. Shipwrecks are always beings discovered by museum staff and the discoveries are always being shared with the public here. But it keeps life interesting, as if it wasn’t already.

    Best,
