Cascades Raptor Center

When we were visiting Alexis in Eugene we visited the Cascades Raptor Center, which is a delightful nature center and very educational. Getting to see this Barn Owl up close was a special treat.

This Eurasian Eagle Owl really like “talking” to Camilla.

Ferruginous Hawks are my favorite North American hawk.

What’s not to like about an up-close and personal look at a Gyrfalcon.

Then in January, after we were back in Ann Arbor, an ice storm caused major damage to several of the aviaries. Fortunately no birds or people were hurt.

Work was underway as soon as ice allowed.

Downed trees were everywhere.

Looking at the pictures it’s hard to believe that no birds were hurt and that the two birds in the damaged aviaries didn’t wander off. The birds involved were a Great Horned Owl and Bald Eagle.

The center is conducting several fund raisers and accepting donations.

More tomorrow…
