After leaving Las Ninfas we headed west to Huatulco where we were going to take a pelagic. But the spent the last part of the day looking for birds. This is a Golden-fronted Woodpecker at a nest in a palm.

Being in the hotter part of the day at sea level we had a lot of butterflies.

The White-throated Magpie-Jays were busy picking off butterflies.

We then headed off to a spot that had Colima Pygmy-Owls that were quite cooperative. But this wasn’t the only highlight.

We had an extremely vocal Lesser Ground Cuckoo that posed nicely for us.

At out hotel we have a number of green iguanas. These large iguanas are eaten in some areas. I can remember having pollo de arbole, barbecoa in the Yucatan. Yes, it was iguana (tree chicken) and it was quite tasty.

Our excellent meal that night was at Mercader, a Thai-Mexican restaurant.
Out to the ocean tomorrow…
From what I remember of Huatulco, there where lots of mezcal “sampling stations” in the town… I’m waiting for a report on THAT!

Ron – We were in Huatulco for only one night. No mezcal, but I did have a margarita.
