The plants have been going outside for a couple of days to get used to the temperature difference versus under the lights in the basement.

Winter mulch removed from the raised beds and compostable garden paper put down.

Plants in just before the rain started. There are some 50 tomato plants, 18 hot pepper plants and 9 kale plants. Susan did all of the work, while I did other things.
So far we have been getting herbs from the garden – lots of parsley, chives, thyme and mint. I dried mint today, probably enough to last the rest of the time after the fresh mint is gone. Somehow we manage to go through a lot of mint in the course of a year. It seems criminal to pay for it.
The garlic will probably be ready for harvesting in a month or so. We did so well last year that we are still using garlic from the garden – we have not had to buy any for years.
More later…
I would love to come see your garden.
Personally, Iâve given up on growing things in mine, after years and years. There are more and more deer in my Bermuda Triangle (Packard/Eisenhower/Stone School)Â ; I saw a herd of 8 two days ago. They eat my plants by just stepping over the fence, which is too low. In the night, they ripped up some of my impatiens and ate 4 of the 7 begonias. Sigh. So no more tomatoes and Peppers. I have some romaine in a smallish raised planter right by the house on the driveway, where they donât go, and my herbs are there. But Iâll limit myself to that.

Next time we are in town we’ll arrange time for you to stop by and see the garden. That’ll be some time in June.
