As we travel north to Whitefish Point we pass through some prime Kirtland’s Warbler habitat. Susan is scanning for any of the birds that are singing.

Many of the jack pines here are 6-7 feet tall with an understory of blueberry. The perfect habitat for the warblers.

With some patience and luck you can get a good look at one or more.

This bird was about six feet away from me, and less that 2-3 feet from Susan who was sitting on a log. This male was singing loudly.
After we were done here, we went to the Waters exit on I-75 where we ate lunch. An excellent little restaurant right at the exit Wholesome Dine-or-Dash. I highly recommend eating there if you’re traveling north or south on I-75.
More tomorrow…
What excellent camouflage!
