Lake Apopka

Another day in Florida, another site with great birds.

Two common birds here are Pied Billed Grebe and Common Gallinule. Although the most common birds were American Coots.

Getting close to birds is incredibly easy here. This is a head shot of a Great Egret.

White Ibis were as common as Glossy Ibis.

The Wildlife Drive is appropriately on Lust Road.

Common Snipe and Swamphen, about 10 yards apart.

Not all of the great sightings were birds. This is a Queen, a butterfly closely related to Monarchs.

Palm Warblers were quite common here for the first time on this trip.

Another first of our trip south was Savannah Sparrow.

Glossy Ibises seemed to be everywhere.

Limpkins! One of two calling to each other.

W e didn’t have decent looks at whistling ducks until after lunch. Then we found hundred each of Fulvous Whistling Duck and Black-bellied Whistling Ducks.

The obligatory alligator shot. We were surprised at how many people were stopping for every alligator.

And finally an Osprey on a nest.

More tomorrow…
