Merritt Island

Made it to Florida! High around 84F today.

Headed out to Merritt Island with Don. Our first stop was to find Florida Scrub Jays.

Of course we were distracted along the walk. This Little Yellow was the first of many interesting butterflies today.

Gulf Fritillary was butterfly number two for the day.

One of the Florida Scrub Jays, who decided to look away every time I took a photo.

Another butterfly – Phaeon Crescent.

Interestingly American White Pelicans outnumbered Brown Pelicans by over 100:1.

Male Ring-necked Duck that was among the great number of Blue-winged Teal.

Mottled Ducks.

Blue-winged Teal and American Avocets.

Salt marsh Skipper, which were perhaps our most numerous butterfly of the day. And another Gulf Fritillary.

Tricolored Heron.

Two hatch-year Bald Eagles at the nest, not far from fledging.

More tomorrow…
