Downtown Detroit and more

A lot going on in this photo. You can see the Q-line tracks on both sides of Woodward. Then there is the Hudson’s site, where Hudson’s once was, and is now becoming home to a new building. I can remember watching the Thanksgiving Parade here as a kid. Waiting for Santa to arrive was so exciting. There there was the tenth floor (?) where the toys were and Santa would be until late December. Good memories.

As we were walking around downtown we walked by this shop and Susan suggested that we stop for coffee and a treat. Needless to say, we did.

Wow, alleys are quite different today from what I remember of Detroit.

Susan spotted what she thought was a stray dog. Well, it wasn’t. It was a statue of a wolf.

The wolf statue was outside of The Greyson.

The east side of Grand Circus Park looking towards Comerica, where the Tigers play.

The People Mover, which runs in a loop about 20 feet above the street.

The Michigan Building. The Michigan Theater was at the far corner. But more importantly my father worked for Wayne Optical on the third floor of the building. When I was quite small he would sometimes work on Saturdays. I would come down with him and when he was done he would take me to Scanlon’s Stamps, which was on the first floor. I would get to go through the penny stamps and pick out 20-30 as a treat for keeping him company.

The side of the building across from the Michigan Building. Next to this I seem to remember was the small building where Henry Ford built his first car.

On Wednesday we headed north to Whitefish Point. We stopped at Rudyard where we found three all white older male Snowy Owls.

And today is Alexis’ birthday! Here she is, barely a few hours old. I was so excited. I came home from the hospital exhausted, but immediately went to my dark room to process the slides that I shot. These are two of them.

More tomorrow, after the snow storm.
