This morning, well before sunrise we headed to downtown Ann Arbor to catch the D2A2 bus which would drop us off in Detroit. There we would catch the Q-line trolly to the Detroit Institute of Art to see the Van Gogh in America exhibition.

We arrive in Detroit after sunrise and headed to the DIA.

But we didn’t head north to the DIA before catching some of downtown Detroit.

We arrived at the DIA about an hour before our scheduled time to head into the Van Gogh exhibition.

Now on to some of my favorite paintings to see.

This was one of the paintings that inspired me to start creating drawings and paintings.

It is interesting to me that I have a sketch from Spain of fishing boats on the beach that reminded me of this (from Torremolinos, Spain in 1981). Now I am wondering if I was subconsciously affected by this.

Susan looking at a painting she really liked.

After close to two hours of looking at Van Gogh’s paintings and drawings we had a light lunch at the Van Gogh Café.
The exhibition ends this Sunday, but is well worth visiting.
More tomorrow when I will catch up for the last week.
I’m headed there Thursday morning.

Excellent. We took the D2A2 bus, which offers a senior discount and leaves from near the Blake Transit Center every hour. In downtown Detroit we took the Q-line trolly, which is free to the DIA. So basically getting to and from Detroit costs $8/person round trip. And – doing it this was took out all of the stress of driving and finding parking.

My friend, Sandy, and I are as well, at 9am to avoid the worst of the crowds. I don’t know who you are, but no doubt will see you there.
