Searching for birds near Whitefish Point

Yesterday we spent a snowy morning at Hulbert Bog searching for Gray Jays without luck. Then we headed off to Whitefish Point.

It was clear and sunny by the time we got to Whitefish Point. It was an easy drive and nice settling into the cabin.

While it’s not necessarily warm, there is little ice on Lake Superior. This is a freighter heading west.

Our day started on Vermilion Road searching for grouse, which we missed. Our consolation prize were Red Crossbills. From here we headed off to look for Bohemian Waxwings. Some 200 Pine Grosbeaks later we finally found a couple.

Not the best shot, but hey this was one of two that we found feeding on Michigan Holly berries.

Here we are on Basnau Road at Hulbert Bog.

More tomorrow…
