Back home in time for fall

We packed and left Camarillo early yesterday morning. We gave ourselves plenty of time to make the 45-mile drive to LAX, which took some 90 minutes.

After returning our rental we took the shuttle to LAX and had sandwiches that we packed at Candy and Jim’s as we sat near our boarding gate reading, snacking and people watching.

We were impressed with how smoothly everything went with Delta.

The seats at the gate each had power outlets so we could charge whatever needed some power.

On the plane there was coffee, snacks and lunches that we packed. We even managed to watch the latest Downton Abby movie before arriving late at night in Detroit where our friend Mike picked us up.

While we might be missing the great diversity in plants and birds in California, we are now enjoying the changing color of leaves, picking the last of the tomatoes and hot peppers and looking forward to getting apples for making apple sauce. For today it will be canning diced tomatoes, perhaps canning pickled jalapeños, drying chilis and setting some 20 pounds of Roma tomatoes out to ripen.

More tomorrow…
