October 2022

A the end of October I’ll be celebrating Dia de los muertos, “the day of the dead.” Montelobos is a favorite mescal that I can fortunately get in Ann Arbor. I learned about this celebration in Mexico. Anything that happens in the U.S. or Canada pales in comparison to how it is celebrated in Mexico. Mescal, tequila, cigars, dancing, costumes and fireworks are all part of the day. I was fortunate to be at Palenque, in the state of Chiapas in southern Mexico one year for this. What fun. But for now I’ll have to stick to celebration the start of the hockey season.

It appears that the Detroit Red Wings will have a better season this year compared to the past 4-5 years. Who know they might even make the playoffs. The offense appears strong and the defense should be improving. We’ll have to see how it all goes.

More tomorrow…

  1. My father treated the owner of Olympia Stadium’s wife; we had box seats two rows down from Gordie Howe’s family. It was fun seeing the kids’ reactions when their father was on the ice.
And as for Palenque… magnificent. Loved it. And Uzmal and Chichen Itza also.

    1. Uxmal, Chichen Itza, Coba, Tulum and all of the ancient Mayan cities are spectacular. Also, great memories of Olympia. Did you ever get to go skating there? There were times after games that you could.

      1. Oops, forgot Tulum. And of course, on my way back north (via overflying the volcanos), Teotihuacan.
No, never skated there. Only on Lake St. Clair and before that in western NY until 4th grade.
