A great, and tiring weekend full of friends and food

That’s how hikes end for me, with a snooze.

So, this is what happened to the last of the blueberries that I collected before we left Whitefish Point.

Now that we are back home the garden needed picking. This morning I picked tomatoes, green beans and hot peppers. I see some canning in the future.

A special memory from seven years ago. The goblin moonwort is possible 2″ tall. The entire adult plant is on the left. It was growing on a steep slope along the Niagara Escarpment in Mackinac County, Michigan. It was found accidentally the day before when our friend Steve literally stumbled across one the one we photographed. The photo on the right is Susan photographing the same plant.

More tomorrow…

  1. I’m jealous of all your tomatoes. I bought organic plants at Produce Station and planted them in my little garden area surrounded by a fence. But the fence isn’t tall enough to keep out the deer, and squirrels just get in from the nearby trees. In the mornings I would come out to freshly chewed-off tomato plant tops.
So after many years of this, I’m giving up. This is my last year planting anything. Well, maybe basil. And maybe green peppers because the critters don’t like them. But my tomatoes will come from the store. Sigh.

    1. Sorry about the animal problem. Our garden is completely open to animals and we don’t seem to have much of a problem. Chipmunks get a few, but we have enough plants that we don’t mss them.

      1. Don’t know where you live, but I’m on Shady Lane in the Bermuda Triangle: Packard, Stone School Road, Eisenhower. Lots of critters here: bunnies, deer, woodchucks, skunks, raccoons…
