When I think about the Russian claim to Ukraine I think about what the south-western US would think if Mexico marched in and claimed ownership.

An editorial cartoon from this morning. The higher gas prices that we are seeing is due to profits by the gas companies – it doesn’t have to be this way. Regardless, I’ll pay more for gas if it helps Ukrainians.

A recent Zelensky address to the people of Ukraine. It is rather poetic, albeit in translation.

A recent map of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Pandemic cases in Europe yesterday where it is much worse than in many other areas of the world.

A recent graph from an article in the New York Times. It is clear that how the county voted in the previous election mattered in cases and deaths from covid.

After starting my day reading about the war and the virus it was time to get outside. We decided to go shopping at the People’s Food Co-op in downtown Ann Arbor, about a two mile walk. We passed Bloom, city club a cannabis shop on Miller, near downtown.

Then a couple of blocks closer to Main another cannabis shop.

On Main Street we passed The Heidelberg, where I have not eaten since getting food-poisoning there in the early 1980s. Maybe it’s time to try them again.

Om of Medicine, another cannabis on Main Street.

We passed some street art on Main Street that reminded me of refugees marching off to safety.

We were heading to a Thai place that no longer exists, but has been replaced by The Jagged Fork. Our lunch there was rather nice. Hopefully, we will try them for breakfast this Sunday.

My never-ending practice of folding paper into birds. Susan called this a threesome. Here I thought I was making an Anhinga with two kids.

Then as we headed towards the co-op we passed Bongz & Thongz another shop to get cannabis.

If you are from Ann Arbor you might know this corner. This is one the side of Literati.

Well, after over two hours we finally made it to the co-op for shopping. Then he headed back home.

We passed The Broken Egg, well at least the last remains of the restaurant – their logo in a window. They are, however long gone.

On our way home along Miller Avenue we stopped for a treat.

We ate our snacks next to this stegosaurus before our final march home. Our shopping trip was a little more than six miles, but we saved on gas and parking.
More tomorrow…
What a nice adventure. Did you use backpacks to bring home the groceries? Having to carry my groceries 2 miles would certainly affect my choices at the store.

Yes, we took appropriate bags for shopping. We got beans, rice, herbs and spices. Backpacks would be nice for a bigger shopping trip.

…and the walk home is mostly uphill! We stopped at a neighborhood bakery for a treat, then shouldered our loads and made the climb. Good exercise!
