Welcoming 2022

Susan and I spent the night at our house rather than a party with friends. It’s the fourth day of our five day isolation after arriving back in Ann Arbor from our trip to Oregon. It was quiet. We watched some of the Orange Bowl and the Red Wing hockey game. We welcomed the New Year in at 11PM as we headed off to bed.

We started 2022 with a nice walk at Gallup Park in Ann Arbor. It was fun seeing birds that we hadn’t seen in a year (pun intended). More on trying to see “things” in a year later.

The amphibians weren’t real, and I can’t remember ever seeing them before.

This turtle was new for me as well. Gallup Park is now a walking and biking, child friendly park. There are now even some play areas for children. Camilla and Oscar would love it.

The final animal statue was a muskrat. Which reminds me of something I posted on Face Book January 1, 2014.

I have kept track of everything that I have seen every years since 2014. Last year was the year (2021) with the fewest number of species seen (2153). But I am already close to 100 species for 2022. And since we will be visiting lots of friends in Florida and North Carolina this winter I am hoping for 3000 or more this year. I’ll be writing about the great diversity of life on our travels as the year progresses.

More tomorrow…
