Art challenge and Whitefish Point

Social distancing for bird-watchers. Yesterday we had trouble fitting in any afternoon walks due to rain and thunder. Rain is OK, but thunder means lightening and I’m not keen on being a potential strike. In the early evening we had a nice view to the west, even though it was raining here.

On to the art challenge, which for today is finned. This immediately screams fish at me. So here are a drawing from the Belle Isle Aquarium, and an illustration that I did for Along the Huron.

I would not want to catch an alligator gar

I would not want to catch an alligator gar if I was fishing, too much fight for this old body.

The largest and smallest of the catfish found in the Huron River. The channel catfish is a very large fish, where as the mad tom would easily fit in your hand.

The art challenge for tomorrow is heavy. More then…

  1. My Dad was a fisherman and he took me along with him when I was not yet a teenager to Arkansas. I caught a Gar and right you are it gave me a fight I have not experienced since. I have long ago given up fishing but I remember what a struggle that was with Gar.
