A photo (or two) from this week

The other day we took a wonderful long walk at Hudson Mills Metropark in Washtenaw County, Michigan. The loop trail that we took is 2.75 miles long and winds next to the Huron River and over some streams, through woods and fields.

It was a beautiful day to talk a nice long walk and see a variety of wildflowers and insects.

Recently I have been playing with Seek an iPhone app that attempts to identify living objects using your phone. In general it’s decent. Better with plants, and surprisingly moths. It is decent with most insects, even some difficult ones (like moths and flies) yet rather problematic with butterflies and dragonflies. Oh well, it’s a free app and just fun to play with. Both Susan and I have been enjoying the challenge of agreeing or disagreeing with the app. And anyway it’s a fun passtime.

Not everything that we encountered was easily identified. For instance the final photo of the day. But for now, that’s all. Back tomorrow with some natural history adventure.
