A year and a half into the SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) pandemic and the United States is slipping backwards in both the number of new cases, deaths and hospitalizations. This slide is being driven by the combination of the delta-variant and anti-vaxxers.
The number of new daily cases on 3 August, 104,758 was the greatest number since 4 February, 2021 – driven by dramatic increases in Florida and Texas (the two account for 29% of the new cases).
As with new cases deaths have also increased with 516 on 3 August, the largest number since 4 June, 2021.
If this situation is not rectified soon there is an increased chance of new mutations which will prolong the pandemic even further. As long as anti-maskers and anti-vaxxers exist, the pandemic will continue – until all of the “anti” people get the virus.
We are fortunate to live in an area in Michigan where the. numbers have been “moderate.” (yellow on the map) Yet, when shopping even though we are both vaccinated, we wear masks.
After months of avoiding restaurants we have been visiting some of our old favorites, we had bee supporting them through the pandemic by ordering take out. The economic and psychological toll of the pandemic has had quite an impact on people.
I hope tht we can rally our population to respond to the pandemic, setting unreasonable fears and politics aside – mask mandates are a necessity as well as getting vaccinated.
Whenever you want I can look of the statistics for most regions of the nations and the world. Just ask. I have been keeping track of the number of cases and deaths since late February, 2020.
After this somewhat depressing post I’ll take the blog to a cheerier spot tomorrow.
I have noticed more people waiting in line at the pharmacy to get shots. The pharmacist said last week was busy, however the people showing up for there appointments this week is dropping.

Yes, the numbers wax and wane. I hope that they start to go up. Right now Florida is a bit of a mess.
