I’m sitting writing this at 2:30 am PST. It’s 48F outside, which is almost as high as it got yesterday 53F. Yesterday, even though it was our last, was packed full of stuff. There were the ever-present cats – Leonard and Sheldon. There there were the last walks in the neighborhood, the last games andContinue reading “Eugene: Day-13”

Eugene: Day-12
When I got up this morning it was a lot warmer than yesterday (47F versus 31F) and while it’s overcast and foggy it’s not raining. We spent the morning yesterday outside looking at plants and listening to birds. Every year I keep a master list of “living organisms.” Last year I had 666 species ofContinue reading “Eugene: Day-12”
Eugene: Day-11 Happy New Year!
It’s hard to believe that it’s now 2026. This grand journey started three-quarters of a century ago for me at least. And what a great and wild ride it’s been getting here. So, I’m starting the year with humor, walking and games. Here we go – Starting the year with Snoopy & Woodstock celebrating theContinue reading “Eugene: Day-11 Happy New Year!”
Eugene: Day-10
Another beautiful morning in Eugene. The day started ay 31F. Susan and I walked over to the house on Tiara Street that had a lot of bird feeders. I was amazed that somebody had a heated hummingbird feeder. Since Anna’s Hummingbirds are hear all year it sure makes sense. In fact we’ve see two pairsContinue reading “Eugene: Day-10”
Eugene: Day-6
Yesterday was, as is usual here a full day. Susan and I took a long walk in the morning. I concentrated on photographing lichens and some mosses. But there are always birds and other things to distract us. It’s always fun to see large clocks of Cackling Geese pass over giving their distinct calls makingContinue reading “Eugene: Day-6”
Eugene: Day-5
Spending time in the Pacific Northwest at this time of year always means seeing lichens and mosses at their peak when everything is quite damp. It is also mushroom season. So our walks are always dominated by seeing lots of these species. What’s even better is that our grandson, Oscar really likes fungi. Last yearContinue reading “Eugene: Day-5”
Eugene:Day-4
I’m sitting here on Christmas morning thinking about the past and the present. I’m also thinking about comics that make me happy, so I’ll start with that. The world can always use more mistletoe! I’ll take it both in the field and at home. Snoopy and Woodstock always make my days brighter, especially during theContinue reading “Eugene:Day-4”
Eugene:Day-3
It was another day spending the morning at the Holiday Market. Did some shopping for the kids and had lunch. There are elves everywhere. This one pointed us to the food court. I’ll happily report that there was entertainment everywhere. The food court had an amazing array of options – with meat, vegetarian and vegan.Continue reading “Eugene:Day-3”
Eugene:Day-2
Yesterday was a day for walking and shopping. Susan and I started the day with a walk near where Alexis is living. It started out overcast with very light rain then cleared and was surprisingly sunny the rest of the day. The rest of the day was spent reading, writing, shopping and doing stuff aroundContinue reading “Eugene:Day-2”
Eugene: Day-1
Yesterday I managed to sleep in until almost 7:30 am PST. Then we had a full day. We spent the morning at the Holiday Market where we saw a lost of arts and crafts. We got a few things, but we were in no rush since we can still go there on Tuesday and Wednesday.Continue reading “Eugene: Day-1”
