Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, Florida

Susan and I returned to the typical wildlife drive at Lake Apopka and weren’t disappointed. Wading birds were quite plentiful along the drive. We had great looks at all of them. Two of my favorites were Glossy Ibis (left) and immature Little Blue Heron (right). There was a great Blue Heron nest where we stoppedContinue reading “Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, Florida”

Revisiting Merritt Island, Florida

Susan and I spent the day visiting some favorite places on Merritt Island. First we went to Pine Flatwood Trail, then we did Haulover Canal, Black Point Road, and the Visitor Center. Apopka WIldlife Area, Florida

We always visit the Apopka Wildlife Drive when in the New Syrma Beach area. But this year SEVAS (South East Volusia Audubon Society) arranged a special tour, via tram, to areas within the preserve that cannot be visited under normal circumstances. An interesting start to the year

This year I have vowed to be more observant and pay attention to the “little” things such as lichens and fungi. InContinue reading “An interesting start to the year”

Thinking about warmer times

I’m sitting across from our wood stove at Whitefish Point in a warm room looking outside where the temperature is currently 7F. Tomorrow we’re heading into eastern Chippewa county in search of some winter birds. Who knows how that will go? But I am also thinking about last week when Susan and I visited GallupContinue reading “Thinking about warmer times”

Drawings of some birds from the south

I love the whistling-ducks, both Fulvous and Black-bellied. I always look forward to seeing them when we are traveling in the south during the winter. Ibises are interesting waders. When we’re in the south we seen both Glossy Ibis (left) and White Ibis (right). Recently when I was in Brazil I saw four species ofContinue reading “Drawings of some birds from the south”
