For the past few weeks I’ve been reading a lot. Right now I’m a bit slow as I recently had a tetanus shot and the most recent COVID vaccine. So here’s what I’ve read.

This was an interesting fantasy read. It’s the story of a young woman who inherits an interesting bookstore. It’s also about her relationship with a rival bookstore owner that ultimately leads interesting situations. The actual bookstore below is part of a river that runs below special bookstores. The beginning is rather slow going but the story picks up quickly.

Another interesting fantasy read. This is the third book in a series. The story mainly involves werewolves and vampires, although there’s a nereid, and in this book a unicorn and a satyr. Of course all of this is happening today. I’ve really enjoyed reading this series and I have the fourth book and have pre-ordered the fifth.

Last year I went through a pase of reading books associated with the Trojan War. I had this on my shelf waiting to be read, but switched to other reading. So a couple of weeks ago I finally got to reading this. It’s an interesting retelling of the story of Clytemnestra, her sister Helen and cousin Penelope. It also involves Agamemnon, Menelaus and Odysseus. It largely ignores the events of the Trojan War but does refer to some of the details. It was excellent.

Another excellent read. This is essentially the story of the Odyssey as told by Penelope. The story takes place two thousand years after the events and is set in Hades with everything told in flashbacks. Occasionally there is a chapter that is a poem, short or long, given by a chorus of maids. It’s a short book at 197 pages so can be a rather quick read.
There it is. More later…
